Board of Directors
The Board of Directors provides vital oversight of Staples Mill Road Baptist Church’s legal, business, and financial affairs. Guided by our church’s Bylaws and in partnership with ministry leaders, the Board ensures that our church’s resources are stewarded with wisdom and integrity. Reviewing policies, insurance coverage, and more, this team works behind the scenes to support the mission and ministries of the church.
Purpose (Scope of Ministry): To oversee the legal, business and financial affairs of the Church, acting under the direction and with the approval of the Church in regards to all matters.
The Board of Directors at Staples Mill Road Baptist Church holds a crucial leadership role in managing the church’s legal, financial, and property-related affairs. As defined by the church’s Constitution and Bylaws, the Board exercises the corporate powers of the church, conducting business and overseeing matters under the authority and direction of the congregation. While spiritual leadership rests primarily with the pastoral staff and ministry teams, the Board ensures that the church operates with legal and financial integrity.
The Board consists of 7-9 directors -- members of the church who are nominated and serve a three-year term.
A significant responsibility of the Board is financial oversight. Although day-to-day financial administration is delegated to the Finance Committee and Treasurer, the Board maintains accountability through regular reports and direct meetings with financial leaders. The Board also ensures the church maintains adequate insurance coverage, working in partnership with the Financial Secretary and the Properties Committee. Periodic reviews and competitive bids help ensure responsible stewardship of church resources.
The Board is also responsible for the church’s operational governance, including maintaining and updating the church’s Policies and Procedures Manual. Changes to this manual may be initiated by church staff, ministry teams, or the Board itself, and are communicated to all affected parties once finalized.
Through thoughtful stewardship and wise governance, the Board of Directors works to ensure the church is well-managed in its financial, business, and legal dealings. Their oversight helps support the church’s mission by ensuring the infrastructure and policies are in place to allow ministry to flourish effectively and responsibly.

Participation on the Board is limited. Set by the Constitution and Bylaws, the Board has a fixed number of directors, with only 2-3 openings each year. Because of the high level of oversight, directors are carefully chosen by the Nominating Committee and Pastors -- typically well-known and active church members who have insight into legal, business, or financial matters or who are well-trusted in wise decision-making. If you would like to be considered as a Director, please indicate your interest on the form linked below.
